This is a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 that I modeled in Maya. This is one of the most difficult things that I have created in Maya as I decided to concentrate on making the model as perfect as possible. I started the Lamborghini by creating a base mesh which followed most of the curves of the car so that I could use it as a template, so when it came time to creating all the different body panels I had something to work off of.
After modeling the Lamborghini, I decided to add some exhaust fumes. I did all of this in Maya using Bifrost Aero. I have done many tests in the past when creating smoke to achieve a realistic look when the fumes interact with turbulence and drag in the air. I used aiStandardVolume to texture the simulation and then cached the particle effect to get a short exhaust effect.
I then added one of the early car models to an environment that I had created in Maya. I used a strong tool called MASH to place ferns, rocks, grass and trees across the landscape to try and make the whole scene seem as if it was in the middle of a forest. I used PBR materials on the road, forest floor and tree trunks to create a realistic affect. Unfortunately, the displacement did not work on the materials and to fix this I have now changed my workflow to make sure that I bake the objects that have the PBR materials just in case this happens again in the future.
