For this project, we were tasked with creating any sequence of shots we wanted. We decided to create a sequence of shots with a Desert themed environment. In total, we had 4 shots as well as cinematics for our credits.
I was tasked with creating the interior cave scene for the project. Initially, we were going to use Maya to create the cave scene but realised that calculating the lighting using path tracing was not efficient, so decided to move the work into the newly released Unreal Engine 5. There were many things to consider when moving everything over to a completely different software. But with good planning and time management, the shot came together and was able to reach that photoreal look we were going for.
I was also made some geometry for the shot, in the concept art we had some ruins high up above the cave and I took on the task to create this. Using a mixture of Maya, Houdini, ZBrush and, Substance Painter I was able to create a high detailed model which fit well within our interior scene.
